Application Instructions for Welded Carbide Blades/ Inserts:

Welded cutting tool construction should have sufficient rigidity
Sufficient rigidity is ensured by the maximum allowable external dimensions and the use of higher strength steel grades and heat treatment.

Carbide blades or inserts should be firmly fixed
Cemented carbide inserts should have a sufficient degree of reliability, which is guaranteed by the kerf and welding quality. Therefore, the insert groove shape should be selected according to the shape of the insert and the geometric parameters of the insert.
Before welding the blade to the shank, it is necessary to check the blade and the shank. First, check that the supporting surface of the blade cannot be severely bent. The cemented carbide welding surface shall not have a serious carburized layer, and the dirt on the surface of the cemented carbide blade and in the insert groove of the arbor should be removed to ensure reliable welding.
3.
Requirements for Solders
In order to ensure the welding strength, suitable solder should be selected. In the welding process, good wettability and fluidity should be ensured, air bubbles should be excluded, the solder and alloy welding surfaces should be fully contacted, and there should be no lack of welding.
4.
Requirements for welding fluxes
It is recommended to use industrial borax, which is dehydrated in a drying furnace before application, then crushed, sieved to remove mechanical inclusions, and ready for use.
Due to the high brittleness of carbide inserts and strong sensitivity to crack formation, the tool should avoid overheating or rapid cooling during sharpening, and at the same time select a grinding wheel with appropriate particle size and hardness and a reasonable grinding process to avoid sharpening. Cracks will affect the service life of the tool.
When the tool reaches normal bluntness, it must be re-ground. After re-grinding, the tool must be ground with oil stone to grind the cutting edge and sharp fillet, which will improve the service life and safety and reliability of the tool. Or the cemented carbide blade can be replaced easily with a new one.
