Types of Crushers and Their Wear Parts

May 06, 2022

Today let’s talk about the crushers that usually used in sand-crushing, recycling, and mining. According to the market, the widely used types of crusher are in the below chart.

Types of Crusher

Core Working Principle in One Sentence

Feed particle size (mm)

(Varies by brand)

Applicable Materials

(Rocks, gravels, ores, etc.)

Cone Crusher

Rock squeezed between the eccentrically gyrating spindle and the hopper

60~300

Calcite, limestone, granite, river pebble, dolomite, bluestone, glass, basalt, iron ore, etc.

Hammer Crusher

Crush by the impact of the high-speed rotating hammer head and the impact between materials

0~1000

All kinds of ores with compressive strength not exceeding 100MPa and moisture content less than 15%.

Jaw Crusher

V-shaped crushing chamber, (toothed) swing jaw moves

100~1500

River pebble, granite, basalt, iron ore, limestone, quartz stone, coal gangue, construction waste, etc.

HSI Crusher

Crush with hammers fixed on a spinning rotor

0~800

Used in recycling, hard rock and soft materials

VSI Crusher

Stone on stone, stone on iron

0~1300

It is suitable for medium hardness, soft materials: limestone, coal gangue, weathered rock, dolomite, granite and other materials.

Mobile Crushing Plant

Jaw crusher as primary crusher - Impact Crusher / Cone crusher as secondary crusher

- Vibrating screen - Unqualified gravel conveyed back & re-crushed

For all crushers, the most abrasive and wear parts need to be replaced frequently and usually requires high cost and much downtime.

Next, we’ll discuss what the most abrasive and wear parts of different crusher are and what materials they are made of.

1. Cone Crusher: mantle and bowl liner made of high manganese steel.

2. Hammer Crusher: hammerhead, usually made of high manganese steel or sometimes carbide surfaced on the wear surface

3. Jaw Crusher: jaw plates, including swing jaws and fixed jaws usually made of cast iron and manganese steel respectively.

4. HSI Crusher: hammers and blow bars made of chrome, manganese steel, or T-alloy.

5. VSI Crusher: anvils, shoes, rotor tips, and tail liners made of high manganese steel or special alloys.

ZZ Old Craftsman specialized in carbide wear parts. Regarding carbide brazing products, we will custom the Carbide Grade to meet the actual working environment. Since suitable Carbide Grade can maximize the performance of carbide items, we can do R&D to you specific requirement until it passes your test of product performance.

Moreover, we adopt the vacuum brazing technology, using copper solder to reach higher bonding strength between steel and cemented carbide.

All carbide brazed products can be custom made to your specifications. OEM & ODM are both accepted. We are glad to provide sample testing. Any questions pls feel free to contact us!
